Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Physical Therapy Clinic FAQ

Physical Therapy Clinic FAQ

Q. How should I dress?
A. When you come in for therapy, wear comfortable clothes, such as workout clothes and athletic sneakers.

Q. What happens during the first visit?
A.  Your first visit is an initial evaluation of one hour.  During this visit, the physical therapist will speak with you about previous medical history, your current ailments, and what your therapy plan will entail.  You will receive treatment and instruction in appropriate exercises for your diagnosis.

Q. How long does each visit last?
A.  The initial evaluation is one hour and further visits are scheduled for forty-five minutes each, but may last longer depending on your exercise program.

Q. How many visits will I need?
A. Depending on your diagnosis, the number of treatments will vary.  If you have a simple straightforward problem such as an ankle sprain, it may only require 2-3 visits.  For more complex spine related problems or after surgery, it could take up to several months.

Q. What happens if my problem or pain returns?
A. You can receive additional treatment once you have been discharged from Physical Therapy.  It usually takes a referral from your doctor or depending on how long it has been since your last visit, you may be able to schedule right away.  Our PTs are always willing and available by phone or email to counsel you on what you can do to alleviate your pain.

Q. What insurances do you accept?
A. Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and most general insurances.  You can contact us and we can assist you in finding what kind of coverage your insurance provides.

Q. Are there limits to how much treatment I can receive?
A. Depending on your insurance, there are limits.  For example, Medicare has a $1840/year cap for physical and speech therapy services.  However, some diagnoses may fall under an exception category that may exempt you from the cap.  General insurance may also limit treatment to number of visits or amount payable per year.  We are happy to help you determine the benefits specific to your insurance policy.
